The City of Redwood City will host two community forums in October on Automated License Plate Reader cameras, or ALPRs, providing residents with additional opportunities to share feedback and discuss the City’s use of the technology.
The forums will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, and Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Fair Oaks Community Center, 2600 Middlefield Road.
The Redwood City Police Department most recently provided an update on ALPRs at the Aug. 12 Police Advisory Committee meeting, which included public comment. The October forums will continue that community conversation and provide more opportunities for residents to share their perspectives.
“Redwood City is committed to protecting public safety while upholding the privacy of residents.” said Mayor Elmer Martinez Saballos. “These additional community meetings are ways we aim to broaden participation and give community members we haven’t heard from yet a chance to learn and weigh in."
Light refreshments and Spanish translations will be provided.
Separately, the City Council is scheduled to consider the City’s response to the recent San Mateo County Civil Grand Jury report regarding automated license plate reader technology at its Oct. 5 meeting. The City’s response and related materials will be included with the City Council agenda when it is published.
