Divisions
The Redwood City Police Department is organized into three primary divisions: Patrol, Support Services, and the Business Manager's Office. Each office reports directly to the Chief of Police. This structure, adopted in January 2024, reflects recommendations from an operational study conducted by the Center for Public Safety Management, aimed at streamlining the distribution of responsibilities and expanding the use of professional staff to manage administrative functions historically overseen by sworn command staff.
Patrol Division
The Patrol Division is the Department's largest and most visible division, led by the Patrol Captain and supported by two Lieutenants and nine Sergeants. Patrol Officers, Community Service Officers, Communication Dispatchers, a Mental Health Clinician, and Parking Enforcement Officers work under this division to provide frontline response, traffic enforcement, and day-to-day public safety services throughout Redwood City.
Support Services Division
The Support Services Division is led by the Support Services Captain and includes two units: Professional Standards and Investigations. The Professional Standards Lieutenant oversees training and the Body Worn Camera Program. The Investigations Lieutenant oversees the Department's detectives, crime analyst, a Juvenile Specialist, and the Property & Evidence Room. This division was formed in 2024 through the consolidation of the former Administrative Division and Investigations Division, bringing professional standards, training, and investigative functions under a single command.
Business Office
The Business Manager oversees the Department's Records Unit and administrative support staff, including the Management Analyst and Administrative Secretaries. This role, created in 2024 to replace the former Deputy Chief of Police position, reflects the Department's shift toward greater use of professional civilian staff for administrative oversight.
