Compliments and Complaints
Compliment an Officer or Department Employee
We want to know when you're satisfied with the service you've received from a Department member. Recognizing good work reinforces it, so we share every compliment with the employee and their supervisor. Please reach out via our "Contact Us" page. In some cases, employees may also be considered for a formal commendation or award.
Concerns and Inquiries
Maintaining public trust means taking citizen concerns seriously. If you have questions or concerns about an employee's conduct, call 650-780-7100 and ask for the on-duty watch commander or supervisor, who can answer your questions or help you file a complaint.
Do not use these contacts to report criminal activity. For emergencies, call 9-1-1. For non-emergencies, call 650-780-7100 or file an online crime report.
Formal Complaints
To file a formal (Internal Affairs) complaint, choose one of the following:
In Person: Complete an Internal Affairs Intake Form (English or Spanish) and bring it to 1301 Maple Street, Redwood City, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:30 PM. Tell Lobby staff you're filing a complaint, and an on-duty supervisor will assist you.
By Phone: Call 650-780-7100 and ask for the on-duty watch commander or supervisor.
By Mail: Complete an Internal Affairs Intake Form and mail it to 1301 Maple Street, Redwood City, CA 94063.
Note: The form must be signed and include your phone number for the complaint to be investigated. The form is available for download below, in both English and Spanish.
All complaints are investigated thoroughly and impartially. Internal Affairs, under the Captain of the Administrative Services Division, investigates allegations of conduct that violate Department policy or discredit the Department. Complaints go to the Chief of Police for final review, weighing the interests of the complainant, the employee, the Department, and the public. Retaliation against complainants or witnesses is strictly prohibited.
