VIPS Program
The purpose of the Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) program is to provide local community members with volunteer opportunities to use their skills and experience in support of the Redwood City Police Department, while strengthening the relationship between the Department and the community it serves. VIPS supplements the efforts of paid staff to help facilitate services and programs, and offers volunteers a great way to become familiar with the Police Department, its core values, and its initiatives.
VIPS volunteers contribute in two main ways. Through assistance with event management, volunteers work closely with sworn officers to provide a safe and welcoming environment during large events such as parades, festivals, Town Hall meetings, and the Community Police Academy. Through outreach and public education, volunteers work alongside officers and department leadership to provide crime prevention presentations and help coordinate Neighborhood Watch meetings.
