Coffee with the Cops
Coffee with Cops is an informal community outreach program that brings Redwood City Police Department officers together with residents in a relaxed, no-agenda setting. Rather than responding to a call for service or working a scheduled event, officers spend an hour or two at a local coffee shop simply talking with anyone who stops by. The format removes the barriers that can make it hard to approach police in more formal settings, giving neighbors a chance to ask questions, raise concerns, or just get to know the officers who patrol their area.
The program supports RCPD's broader commitment to community policing by building relationships before a crisis or a complaint makes them necessary. Regular, low-pressure contact between officers and residents helps establish trust, surfaces neighborhood concerns early, and gives the department a better sense of the issues that matter most to the people it serves. It also gives officers visibility as individuals rather than only as a uniform, which strengthens cooperation and communication over time.
Coffee with Cops events are open to everyone, no appointment required. Attendees are welcome to bring specific questions about their neighborhood, ask about department programs and services, or simply introduce themselves.
